About Pete and Bambi

Nearly forty years ago a mentor introduced me to horses. His tutorship kindled a fire that has wonderfully changed my life. Since then horses, books, and students have been become my instructors. I know that the horse knowledge that I’ve acquired and am still learning is a gift on loan….and I too must pass it on as it was given to me by a friend many years ago.

1997 to present: Currently training, giving seminars/clinics and teaching students (ages six to sixty) how to develop good horses and quality horsemanship. Lessons given at our location or at horses owners' barns. Trainers like Ray Hunt, Pat Parelli, John Lyons and Monty Roberts have shaped my approach to horses and I incorporate their “rider-horse” communication techniques and restraint-free concepts in my training and instruction.
1990 to 1997: My wife and I established Bent Tree Horseback Riding Stable in Jasper, Georgia. Programs included escorted rides, training, boarding, lessons and hay rides.
1988 to 1991: “Bits and Buggies”. Ball Ground, Georgia. Horse drawn carriages for special events, training and riding lessons (private, semi-private, group).
1978 to 1988: “Crazy ‘C’ Horseback Riding Stable” Owner-Operator, Mason, Michigan; Horse rental (open riding, approximately 45 horses), training, boarding, horse drawn carriages (five teams), hay rides (horse drawn & tractor drawn), sleigh rides, and lessons. Lesson programs included; private, semi-private, group lessons (Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, YMCA, E. Lansing High School PE classes for credit, Lansing Community College courses for credit, and classes for Adult Community Education).
1965 to 1978: Horse lover/owner. Trail riding & contesting (barrel racing events).
Bambi started working in the restaurant business at 15. After college, Bambi chose to do her training with Marriott Corporation in their Management Program. She had the opportunity to work with the executive Chef for almost a year before becoming a Restaurant Manager. From there, she took a promotion with Hyatt Hotels in Atlanta to become one of their Banquet Managers.

In 1997, a lifetime dream of opening a restaurant came true. Bambi and Pete owned and operated a full service restaurant for six years. Their success was due to customer service, and using the finest ingredients while cooking. "Fresh is the best!" During that period, she realized her true passion lay in the planning and executing of special events and parties. After much thought and hard work, Firefly Acres was born. Come and share in the magic of our will be a memory you will never regret!

Bean and Nipper
In memory of two very special companions who helped us through the start of Firefly Acres. Nipper (2003-2010) went on all of our trail rides and was always at our side! Mr Bean (1998-2011) kept us laughing from the moment we picked him up. He was never without a rock in his mouth, and kept many a customer entertained while visiting Firefly Acres! Both are sorely missed.

Miss Kitty
Miss Kitty is our "welcome" committee, and believes everyone (both man and dog) wants to be her friend! Where Bean was never without a rock, Kitty always has her frisbee with her!

Colt aka "Mr. Cuddles" keeps us all laughing with his terrier antics. Colt can be usually found with his duck "friends" doing laps in the pond on a hot day.
